# Six questions about AI that West Bengal can't afford to get wrong.

We study the hard questions AI raises for West Bengal. We bring the people who can answer them into one room, and turn what we learn into recommendations that government, industry and universities can act on. Everything we publish will be independent and free to read.

*Research areas*

## Six areas. A task force for each.

Each task force will bring together practitioners, academics and industry experts, from Kolkata and the rest of India.

*01 · Policy*

### AI policy & governance

How West Bengal should buy, use and regulate AI, covering procurement, data governance, accountability and a state AI roadmap.

*02 · People*

### Talent & the future of work

Which jobs in Bengal AI will create, change or replace. How universities and employers should respond, and how to keep the best people here.

*03 · Economy*

### Industry, startups & investment

What it takes to bring AI companies, global capability centres and capital to Kolkata, including the case for a startup corridor.

*04 · Language*

### Bangla AI & digital infrastructure

Bengali-language models and datasets, access to compute and cloud, and the digital public infrastructure AI depends on.

*05 · Public good*

### AI in public services

Where AI can improve health, education, agriculture and urban services in Bengal, and where it should not be used.

*06 · Trust*

### Ethics, safety & trust

Fairness, privacy, misinformation and safety: the rules that keep AI accountable to the people of Bengal.

*What we publish*

## Work you can use on Monday morning.

We don't write reports to fill shelves. Everything we produce should help someone make a better decision about AI.

- **Policy papers** — In-depth, evidence-based analysis with clear recommendations, free to read.
- **Policy briefs** — Two pages, for the busy decision-maker who needs the answer, not the argument.
- **Roundtables** — Closed-door discussions under the Chatham House Rule, where government, industry and academia work through a hard question together.
- **Task forces** — Small expert groups, one for each research area, that meet for a set period and report on what they find.
- **Roadmaps** — Long-range plans for AI in West Bengal, with milestones anyone can check.

*Connect · Collaborate · Transform*

## Our policy agenda for West Bengal.

Five priorities run through our research and through the advice we give.

- **AI talent for all** — AI skills at scale, so the opportunity reaches every part of the state.
- **AI policy support** — Evidence-based advice to government on fair, inclusive AI policy.
- **Startup corridor** — A blueprint for a corridor where startups, institutions and the state build AI products together.
- **Incubation centres** — A model for incubation centres run jointly by industry, academia and government.
- **Transforming Bengal** — All of the above, adding up to a stronger and fairer West Bengal.
